S.O.S. Chapter 3
Reflection/Discussion Questions
What are your thoughts about her searching for her love at night on her bed, in the city, and through the streets and squares/plazas? What are your thoughts about her not being able to find him? What do you think about her pursuit to find him?
What’s the role of watchmen?
She finds him in verse 4? Where do you suppose he was? Why? How did they become separated?
Why did she bring him to her mother’s house, to the room of the one that conceived her?
The Hebrew word used for room in verse 4 is cheder which can mean inner chamber, innermost parts, inside, bedroom, etc. The root word for cheder is chadar which means to surround, enclose. Does this reveal another meaning/interpretation of verse 4?
Just as I moved past them, I encountered him. I found the one I adore! I caught him and fastened myself to him, refusing to be feeble in my heart again. Now I’ll bring him back to the temple within where I was given new birth—into my innermost parts, the place of my conceiving.
In verse 5, the speaker is again warning the “daughters of Jerusalem” not to prematurely awaken/stir up love. Why do you think that is? Note what is transpiring before and after 2:7 and 3:5? Is there significance in the surrounding text that reveals the reason for these warnings? Is there a pattern?
What are your thoughts about the arrival of King Solomon (vv. 6-11)? What is its significance/relevance?
