Chapter 2
Reflection/Discussion Questions
What are your thoughts about how the man sees his beloved in verse 2 and how the woman sees her lover in verse 3? How does their view of each other compare to how they view other people/things?
When she says she sits in his shade/shadow and tastes his sweet fruit, what Scriptures come to mind?
What image(s) comes to mind in verses 4-6?
Different translations attribute verse 7 to either the bride or the groom. Why does the speaker caution the “daughters of Jerusalem” not to prematurely awaken/stir up love? How does that translate to current times? Does your answer vary based on if the man or the woman is speaking?
Reflect on a time when you were in a waiting season, waiting for the timing to be right and the season to be over but needing to remain patient (verse 7). What signs/indications did you have to remain hopeful (verses 8-9)?
What does spring represent? Winter? Summer and fall? Can you recall a time when the Lord brought you from a wintery season in your life to spring (v. 10-13)? How did it feel?
What season are you in currently? What season is your marriage in? What season is your relationship with Christ in?
Why is she hiding/hidden in verse 14?
What is your interpretation of verse 15? Why is he telling her to catch the foxes? What does their vineyard represent to you? Are there foxes that threaten your and your love's vineyard? How do we catch the foxes?
Anything stand out about her response to him in verses 16-17?
How do verses 14-17 relate to you and the love in your life (spouse and/or Christ)?
